The Upgrade Process

In virtually all standard cases, the Upgrade utility will quickly upgrade your existing SalesCart web site for use with this new version of SalesCart. However, the utility only gets your current site ready for the upgrade. You still must follow the normal process of running the SalesCart wizard as well as configuring the SalesCart Control Panel like you would if you were not upgrading. The SalesCart Upgrade utility tool only performs the following tasks:

  1. Ensures you have a backup of your web site before it starts.
  2. Migrates older SalesCart product pages to newer SalesCart Express product pages
  3. Converts the .ASP located on top of the <html> tag used in previous versions to be .NET compatible (Only when upgrading to SalesCart NET).
  4. Removes the old outdated global.asa and salescart.asa files
  5. Removes and empties out the old checkout system in cgi-bin

Upgrade Steps

There are three steps to the upgrade process:

  1. Un-installing the existing version of SalesCart.
  2. Installing the new version of SalesCart.
  3. Using the Upgrade Wizard to upgrade your previous web site.
  4. Running the new SalesCart Wizard to update settings for the new version.
  5. Running the SalesCart Express Control Panel to update your shopping cart settings including Sales and Shipping information.

Steps 1 and Steps 2 are not covered in this help and are presumed to be done to get to a point where these help pages are displayed. Step 4 is covered in the SalesCart Wizard Help Topic and is not re-covered in these help files.
