Note: SalesCart no longer REQUIRES the Microsoft Personal Web Server unless you wish to VIEW certain webpages locally. The checkout files of SalesCart use Active Server Pages (ASP) pages and if you wish to view these locally, than you must install some kind of web server that can interpret .asp files. By default, we suggest that you DO NOT install a local web server unless its already installed and operating correctly. Create you website and webpages and publish to your service providers computer to view the website in operation.
SalesCart, requires some kind of Web Server (PWS) if you wish to view .asp files which make up a majority of the checkout system architecture. If you wish to install a local Web server locally, follow these directions.
If you have Windows® 2000 or XP professional, Internet Information Server (IIS) 5.0 is shipped in lieu of PWS and you can install the Web server directly from your Windows 2000 setup cd. It is important to determine which version of PWS or IIS is installed on your system because an old version or a partially installed web server would prevent SalesCart from working properly. If you have Windows ME, you must download the PWS (Windows® NT 4.0 Option Pack) from Microsoft. Windows XP Home edition does not come with a Web server so if you are using this operating system, you will need to publish to your service provider to view checkout pages.
There are several distinct types of web servers.
Note: Although the software is titled "Windows® NT 4.0 Option Pack", it contains Microsoft PWS for Microsoft Windows® 95, and ME.
