SYMPTOMS
When adding an item to the cart, this error occurs: Could not open data connection. Error: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for process. The Invalid ConnectionString is defined as: DRIVER={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};DBQ=something.mdb; You may also get a General Disk or Network Error or Unspecified Error

CAUSE
In general, these types of errors are vague ODBC 80004005 Permission errors. They are difficult to troubleshoot and dependent in general on the installation of ASP.NET and the permissions and security settings. There can be a variety of causes so refer to related KB's.

RESOLUTION
Please KB Q5432 for General Guidelines on Installing .NET.

The user under which you have configured ASP.NET must have access to the ODBC registry settings. Click on Start>>Run and type Reget32, Click on OK. Migrate to the folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\ODBC, right click and select Permissions. Add the Everyone group and assign they Read access to the ODBC configuration, click on Apply.

SUMMARY
You or your Network, System Administrator has not configured ASP.NET correctly on the server. This issue can be caused by a variety of permissions issues or the installation of .NET has been performed incorrectly.
