Installing and Configuring Server Extensions

The main purpose of server extensions is to enable the web developer to have direct access to the server through FrontPage®.

If you remove or un-install the PWS, or if you install a newer version of PWS such as Option Pack 4.0 or PWS/IIS 5.0 , or if you install or reinstall FrontPage®, you will need to follow the installation instructions in this section to install the correct version of the server extensions for FrontPage®.

If you are running Windows® 98 or Windows® ME, click on Start>>Programs>>Microsoft Office Tools>>Server Extensions Administrator.

If you are running Windows® NT 4.0, click on Start>>Programs>>Server Administration>>Server Extensions Administrator.

For Windows® 2000, Click on Start>>Settings>Control Panel>>Administrative Tools>>Server Extensions Administrator.

As an alternative, you may also click on Start>>Find>>Files or Folders and search for FPMMC.MSC.

Answer the Server Extensions Configuration Wizard questions as they apply to your particular Operating System. Windows NT and Windows 2000 will ask questions about access permissions.

1. Highlight the LocalHost or Computer/Server Name, as shown below.

2. Right-click on the folder and select New>>Web.

3. The Server Extensions Configuration Wizard Box appears, as shown below.

4. Click Next.

5. If you want to use FrontPage® to send email, you may configure Mail Server extensions. However, for now select No, I'll do it later>>Next>>Finish.

6. Enable CGI-bin Executable's: Right Click on Localhost or your computer name if it appears instead of Localhost. Select Properties. Under Permissions, make sure the Allow authors to up-load executable's is checked. If you or your ISP does not have this option checked, you will not be able to use SalesCart or set permissions correctly from FrontPage.

7. Click OK.
